Central Dominates Sheyenne in First-Place Battle

(KNOX) – West Fargo Sheyenne’s month of December saw them run out to 15 points in the Eastern Dakota Conference standings, including a 7-3 win over Red River in Grand Forks, and gave them optimism for their game at Central Tuesday night.

Central had other plans.

After giving up the first goal of the game, the Knights allowed only 10 total shots in the first two periods, and took a six-goal lead into the final frame for a commanding 10-1 win at Purpur Arena.

Cooper Deziel, seemingly looking for opportunities to find his game this year, scored four goals, and had a hat-trick before the end of the second period.  Ryder Rivard scored four assists, and Nolan Marto scored twice while adding two assists for a four-goal night.

Deziel’s one-timer on the power play in the second punctuated the night.  Rivard made a cross-ice pass and found Deziel waiting on the left point.  Deziel slammed the puck in the upper right corner, perfectly placed where Sheyenne’s Cruz Fitzpatrick could not reach with an outstretched glove.

The Knights now have 14 league points, but have two games in hand on the Mustangs.  Central is the only team without a loss in EDC play.

Central will host West Fargo Friday.
