(North Dakota Monitor) – North Dakota has issued federal food assistance payments for November, but the effects of the federal government shutdown will linger, one food pantry operator says.
Full benefits for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, were issued Monday, according to the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.
November benefits were delayed by the government shutdown that ended last week. Some of North Dakota’s 56,000 SNAP recipients received partial benefits before Congress reached a deal to fund the government.
Stacie Loegering, executive director of the Emergency Food Pantry in Fargo, said the interruption forced some people to find money for food elsewhere, leaving some bills unpaid. She said getting back on track financially will be a challenge for people with little wiggle room.
