Grand Forks Police Arrest One After a Chase

(KNOX) – Thursday an officer with the Grand Forks Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a 2021 Toyota Highlander for erratic driving behavior. The officer attempted the traffic stop near South Washington Street. The vehicle failed to stop for the officer’s emergency lights and sirens and continued southbound. The Toyota then turned west onto 17th Avenue South and accelerated at a high rate of speed.

A Grand Forks County Sheriff Deputy utilized a PIT maneuver on the suspect vehicle near on 17th Avenue South. The maneuver caused the vehicle to crash into an electrical pole on the north side of the berm. The suspect driver was a juvenile, and their information will not be released. The juvenile did not sustain any known injuries but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The juvenile was charged with fleeing in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, theft of a motor vehicle, and theft of a debit card. The Grand Forks Police Department would like to thank the public for their patience as traffic was diverted in the area for approximately 90 minutes while officers investigated the scene.
