(KNOX)- Just after 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon the Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched to an aviation gas tanker accident resulting in a spill on Airport Drive.

Crews arrived on scene and encountered a substantial leak near the rear of the tanker.

There was avgas running out of the ventilation stack of the vehicle, but the tank was not damaged.

The avgas was contained with the use of sand and containers.

Interstate Towing was notified to upright the tanker truck.

Grand Forks International Airport firefighters used foam to protect the area from ignition sources and the lift was completed successfully.

Approximately 200-500 gallons of fuel was lost, but much of it was contained.

The Grand Forks Fire Department responded with one HazMat vehicle, one engine and one command vehicle, with seven personnel.

Grand Forks Fire Department was assisted on scene by the GFPD, UNDPD, GFK Firefighters, Interstate Towing, UND Support, and Altru ambulance
