East Grand Forks has come to a fork in the road in trying to decide how to spend some $860,000 dollars in federal highway funding.
The 2022 money is designed for state aid street improvements – and there are two projects on the books. The council will need to decide whether to designate the Bygland Road roundabout…or the 10th Street Northeast reconstruction… as the top project of choice.
Mayor Steve Gander says the city has time to make an informed decision….but the clock is ticking. “Please do what you can to keep these projects moving ahead in parallel by gathering new information to give us the ability to make an informed decision before the drop dead date.”
The cost of the road construction ranges from $1.6 million to nearly $2.29 million dollars. The federal funding comes at an 80-20 split. A decision is expected later this year.
