(KNOX) – Grandparents who want to catch a flight to see their grandkids this summer should be aware of a deadline that could affect whether they can get on the plane.
May 7, 2025 is the deadline for air passengers to obtain a Real I-D driver’s license, which will clear passengers through the Transportation Security Administration pre-check.
Ryan Riesinger, executive director of the Grand Forks Airport Authority, says the Real I-D will have a star on it. He says only 60 percent of potential passengers have one and that the TSA will issue a certain number of warnings.
Passports may be honored and Global Entry cards through U.S. Customs and Border Patrol “fill up pretty quickly.”
The North Dakota Department of Transportation has hired the engineering firm Ulteig to collect imagery and environmental documents for the intersection of Grand Forks County Road 5 and U.S. Highway 2.
Grand Forks County Commissioner Mark Rustad told the Airport Authority that the DOT may earmark the crossing and look into land procurement.
A second public hearing for Highway 2 and “Airport Road” has yet to be scheduled.
Senate Bill 2006 is the legislation to follow that includes $30 million for primary runway reconstruction at Grand Forks International Airport.
The Grand Forks Airport Authority Board moved to appoint Steve Kuhlman as vice-chair.
