Grand Forks County has shut down all email servers at the close of business on Thursday. A text notifying county employees stated that a foreign country hacked the system. The Sheriff’s Department issued a statement saying that emails would be inaccessible until further notice.
County Administrator Tom Ford says they were notified by the state that their exchange server was vulnerable and so the system was closed as a precaution.
The county IT Department is working on the fix. Ford says no information was lost or stolen. He is hoping to have things back and running in a few days.
The issue is not affecting county phone service to the GFSO.
