State Rep. Zac Ista of Grand Forks Will Continue as Minority Leader Next Session

(Amy Dalrymple – North Dakota Monitor) – Democrats Sen. Kathy Hogan of Fargo and Rep. Zac Ista of Grand Forks will be minority leaders for the upcoming session, the party announced .

Hogan also was minority leader in the 2023 session. Ista became minority leader April 30, 2023, succeeding Rep. Josh Boschee of Fargo, who held the role during the regular legislative session.

Boschee, who was elected to the state Senate, will serve as assistant Senate minority leader and Sen. Ryan Braunberger of Fargo was elected minority caucus leader.

Rep. Gretchen Dobervich of Fargo will serve as assistant House minority leader and Rep. Jayme Davis D-Rolette was reelected minority caucus leader.

“We look forward to getting to work on the most pressing issues facing North Dakota, including housing, property taxes, workforce development, child care, and assuring available and affordable mental health care across the state,” Hogan said in a statement.

Ista said Tuesday the Democrats planned to hold elections in December. Members, who are meeting in Bismarck for Legislative Management meetings, decided to hold elections Wednesday, Ista said.

Republicans, who elected leaders Tuesday night, hold a supermajority in the Legislature.

Lawmakers will return to Bismarck Dec. 2-4 for the organizational session. The 2025 legislative session starts Jan. 7.
