Parking Regulations Could Change in Downtown Grand Forks

(KNOX) -Parking changes could be coming to downtown Grand Forks.

A public meeting was held this week in Grand Forks City Hall to get input from the people who have to park in downtown.

Grand Forks Planning Manager Andrea Edwardson said that city council can approve or reject their recommendations. “We will gather all that feedback,” said Edwardson.

Grand Forks City Council will take up the planned adjustments at their first meeting in August. “City council has final action on the policy changes on August 5th,” said Edwardson.

The Planning & Community Development and Engineering Departments are seeking adjustments to on-street parking operations of certain areas in the northeast portion of downtown in order to better meet anticipated parking demand and facilitate the success of area businesses.

A few targeted areas are proposed to be 30 minute and 1 hour parking, to facilitate more rapid turnover to support increased commercial and visitor activity and to attract additional commercial and office tenants to the area.

Grand Forks City staff has completed some initial stakeholder outreach and the response has been strongly supportive of the proposed changes.

Edwardson said that the city council can approve or reject their recommendations. “Whether they approve or disapprove, we’ll go from there.”
