(KNOX) -Grand Forks Police are enforcing parking regulations in the downtown area.
Police Chief Mark Nelson said that there has been an increase in ticketing in Grand Forks. “There has been more aggressive ticketing this summer. Basically you’re going to see that in the summer in that we have two interns that work for us,” said Nelson.
The emphasis in enforcing parking regulations in Grand Forks is city wide, but an effort is centered in the downtown area. “This is one of their functional areas that we had them focus on,” Nelson said.
Some Grand Forks City Council Members questioned if ticketing has increased during the summer months in downtown Grand Forks. “I’ve heard that ticketing isn’t really enforced anymore downtown,” Council Member Tricia Lunski asked at a recent meeting of the Committee of the Whole.
Having the interns has increased the ticketing by the Grand Forks Police Department. “If you think there has been an increase this summer that is correct. Because the interns are out there,” was Nelson’s response to Lunski’s question.
Parking regulations are being enforced in other areas in Grand Forks as well according to Nelson.
