(KNOX) – A Grand Forks man’s case where he is accused of intentionally hitting two people with his car is being delayed. Judge Ted Sandberg had signed an order that pauses the case until Ian Schneeweis undergoes a mental evaluation done by the North Dakota State Hospital. The evaluation will determine if he is able to understand the charges against him and if he is fit to stand trial.

Schneeweis is accused of hitting multiple pedestrians and another vehicle with his car before he crashed into both a tree and an apartment building entrance. The incident happened in September.
Grand Forks Police were called to the 1600 block of South 16th Street at 5:40pm. Police say Schneeweis ran from the scene after he crashed his car, but he was found and arrested a couple blocks near the crash site.
Court documents say he told police he was using meth and that he heard voices over the radio telling him to run over people.
It was originally reported that two people were hurt and suffered non life threatening injuries. It turns out that court documents say one man was knocked out and ended up being treated for a brain bleed, a broken facial bone and eye swelling.
A second person was walking her dog when Schneeweis drove through grass and hit her. She suffered a broken leg. A third person was not hurt when she fled and avoided being hit when Schneeweis hit a tree instead.
Schneeweis is charged with three counts of Class A felony attempted murder, two counts of Class B felony criminal vehicular injury, four Class C felony counts of reckless endangerment, felony terrorizing, felony criminal mischief, felony preventing arrest, a Class A misdemeanor for ingesting a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor duty upon striking an unattended vehicle and a Class B misdemeanor for refusing to halt.
