(KNOX) – A 61-year-old Moorhead man died last Wednesday in a single vehicle crash. Moorhead Police responded to the crash in the 2200 block of 34th Street South, as the car went off the road, hit both a fence and a tree, and caught fire as the driver was trapped inside the vehicle.
Investigations say Matthew Pitzel was suffering from a medical emergency, and that is believed to have caused the crash. Several bystanders reportedly were trying to help Pitzel before first responders arrived at the scene. Firefighters were able to get Pitzel out of the car, but he died despite there being life saving efforts.
Police originally said there is no indication that speeding resulted in the crash.
