(KNOX) – A 27-year-old Devils Lake man who is accused of killing both his partner and brother on the Spirit Lake Reservation will have his trial delayed for a third time. D’Angelo Hunt’s trial was scheduled for November 17th, but it will now be pushed back to April 13th, 2027 at 9am.

His attorney last month asked a federal judge to delay his trial for a third time. The attorney says there was a possible plea agreement being negotiated at the time.

Hunt was charged with second-degree murder last December for his brother’s death. His brother was reported missing in March 2024 and he was found dead on their father’s property. Last December, he was indicted for voluntary manslaughter involving his partner who was reported missing in January 2024.

The cases were joined together, and Hunt faces 10 federal charges. The charges include one count for both voluntary manslaughter and second-degree murder, as well as six counts for assault and two more counts for tampering with evidence. U.S. District Chief Judge Peter Welte approved pushing bac the trial, and he has not responded to a motion filed by the Hunt’s defense on whether the cases were joined together improperly.

Court documents say Hunt had a history of domestic violence toward his partner. He allegedly assaulted her January 3rd, 2024 and allegedly never reported her missing when she was last seen two days later.

The FBI searched Hunt’s father’s residence and found a burnt phone that matched the manufacturer and model of his brother’s phone. What was also found were carpets and rugs that were replaced, as well as a burnt remnant of a carpet that had dried blood on it.

The trail will be held at the federal courthouse in Fargo.
