(KNOX/Valley News Live) – An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after he led law enforcement on two pursuits. Levi Rose was in a stolen vehicle that ended up in a rollover crash and caught fire.
Officers responded to a report of a stolen 2008 Chevrolet Suburban from the Broken Drum at 1503 North Washington Street.
Officers located the stolen vehicle northeast of the Broken Drum and they tried to catch the man. Rose fled officers and police pursued him through northern Grand Forks and into the southern portion of the city.
Police say he was driving at fast speeds and in an extremely reckless manner. Police stopped going after him for the sake of not putting other drivers in danger.
Rose was found later on going south in the 3200 block of South Washington Street before continuing into Grand Forks County. Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office deputies tried to attempt a traffic stop and that led to a second pursuit.
The pursuit continued on Highway 81 going south. He went into a farmyard, turned around and began traveling north on Highway 81 toward Grand Forks, as he was still trying to flee law enforcement.
Police say they conducted what is considered a Pursuit Intervention Technique maneuver in the 1100 block of Highway 81. After the maneuver, the Suburban went into a ditch, rolled multiple times and caught fire.
Officers from both Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office and Grand Forks Police Department got him out of the vehicle and took him into custody.
Rose suffered minor injuries in the crash and was evaluated and treated at the scene by paramedics. He declined additional medical treatment and was transported to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center.
The Grand Forks Police Department is charging Rose with theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing a felony offense and reckless endangerment – extreme indifference. Rose will also receive citations for multiple traffic violations committed during the incident. Additional charges are expected to come from the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office.
