(KNOX) –An attempted murder charge against a 29-year-old Grand Forks man has been dropped. De’Angelo Brent was facing one Class A Felony, and Four Class C Felonies.
He was charged with Class A felony attempted murder, as well as class C felonies for aggravated assault, terrorizing, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.
The attempted murder and terrorizing charges were both dropped, but he did plead guilty to all remaining charges.
He was sentenced to 15 years for aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, but he will only need to serve 354 days. Brent already has received credit for time served, and will go to probation.
He will serve two years supervised probation for both charges. If he violates the probation, he could then serve the 15 years.
Brent was also sentenced for criminal mischief for 30 days at the Grand Forks County Correctional Facility. He also has received credit for time served for that charge as well.
Brent shot a man multiple times following a verbal altercation, and the victim needed surgery for his injuries.
Brent was in his vehicle, and the victim was on their porch with a woman who was arguing with Brent. Brent pointed a handgun at the victim and shot multiple rounds. He also hit nearby homes, where one of them had an 8-year-old child inside.
Brent’s case had a jury trial scheduled for September, and that has now been canceled.
