(KNOX/Valley News Live)-Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has authorized emergency assistance for areas of Becker, Crow Wing, Fillmore, Houston, Mower and Winona counties. This is in response to the damage they suffered from severe storms, flash flooding and tornadoes in late June and early July.
The total amount of assistance will be determined once all damage assessments are finished.
One of the storms pertaining to the assistance is the tornado that touched down in Becker County July 6, near Big Floyd Lake before moving into nearby neighborhoods. That was an EF-2 that had winds as high as 110 mph.
Three people were injured in the tornado, and no one died. Homes along County Road 131 near the lake sustained heavy damage, with large trees snapped or uprooted, in some cases crashing into houses.
