Moorhead Police Address Rumors About Woman’s Death

(KNOX/Valley News Live) – The Moorhead police department released details in the death of a woman whose case has been drawing online speculation.

Sahar Ramirez was reported missing on June 25, and she was found dead five days later. She was found near the Red River with an empty pill bottle nearby.

Investigators say Ramirez was had mental health concerns and her death is believed to be a suicide. An autopsy found no signs of trauma or injury. The “fragments” in her stomach are consistent with taking pills.

Police said they do not typically release this level of information in active investigations, but they did in this case because of an overwhelming amount of public concern and speculation about how Ramirez died.

Part of that concern has been fueled by a video circulating on social media and shared by family members. The video appears to show Ramirez being abused by her husband.

Moorhead police called the video “absolutely disturbing” but said it was investigated when it was first reported in 2022. Detectives determined the incident happened in Dilworth and turned the case over to Dilworth police for follow-up.

Authorities said current evidence does not show anyone was with Ramirez at the time of her death.

According to police, surveillance video shows Ramirez alone at a Moorhead auto shop, where they say she was seen writing what they described as a suicide note. She then got into a cab by herself and traveled to the area along the Red River where her body was later found.

Investigators said there is no evidence placing her husband at the scene. Instead, they said evidence shows he was out of town at the time of Ramirez’s death.

The investigation into the circumstances of her death remains open, pending toxicology and any additional evidence that may emerge, police said.

Members of the Ramirez family tell Valley News Live this case should be a murder investigation, adding they will be protesting in the coming days.

Family members also said they’re working with Child Protective Services regarding Sahar’s four children.
