Governor Armstrong Declares State Of Emergency

(KNOX) –Gov. Kelly Armstrong has declared a statewide disaster after early-June storms ripped through several North Dakota counties.

The storms had multiple confirmed tornadoes, straight-line winds approaching 100 mph and hail up to 3 inches in diameter. The storms caused an estimated $4.6 million in damage to electrical infrastructure. It also hit homes, farms and businesses in Burke, Bottineau, Divide, McLean, Mercer and Mountrail counties.

The state is working with local officials and utility providers to assess the total amount of damage.

The Governor’s declaration is a step toward asking for a major federal disaster declaration. It could lead to FEMA public assistance funding for repairs.
