(KNOX) – The frozen potato packaging plant that Belgium based company Agristo is building in Grand Forks will take one year longer to build. The plant was supposed to be finished by 2028, but it is now expected to open in the fall of 2029. City Administrator Todd Feland says this decision was deliberate so the construction process isn’t rushed. The site is supposed to be 350 acres and construction started last September.
The city of Grand Forks signed a development agreement with Agristo in August 2025 and the Grand Forks City Council approved a 20-year, 90% (PILOT) incentive package in July 2025. The facility is estimated to process 275,000 tons of potatoes annually, and it is supposed to create up to 350 new jobs.
The project is expected to increase from the previous estimate of roughly $500 million. There will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the plant on July 7.
