(KNOX) – Red River retained the Cushman Cup and ended Central’s soccer season with a 1-0 win at Cushman Field Tuesday night.
Red River sealed up the number-two seed from the Eastern Dakota Conference into the state tournament. The Roughriders improved to 10-2-2 in the league, with 32 points in the standings. They have tiebreakers over West Fargo Sheyenne.
Central was dealt a double whammy. The loss left them at 17 points in the league, and Davies caught the Knights Tuesday night with a 1-1 draw with Fargo Shanley. Davies owns goal-differential tiebreakers with Central.
The lone goal was scored by Myah Nicola after Central goalkeeper Hailey Anderson-Tibiatowski attempted to stop a play, leaving the net open.
Just seconds before the goal, Red River seventh-grade goalkeeper Finn Anderson made a brilliant save against Central’s leading offensive threat, Jacie Reardon, that kept the game scoreless.
Anderson-Tibiatowski equaled the effort for Central, denying Red River standout Taylor Hodny on an aggressive sliding play.
State tournament play begins May 28th at the Bismarck Community Bowl.
