(KNOX) – Although site work is already underway supporters of the Grand Forks Children’s Museum will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony today (Wednesday).

The $35 million dollar two story project is going up on a 4-5 acre plot near the Alerus Center. The 34-thousand square foot complex will feature permanent and rotating exhibits…artwork…event space…teaching rooms…and outdoor exhibits.
The museum will focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM).

At last count a fundraising campaign is near its goal with an opening planned in the late summer of 2027.

The ceremony at 1660 South 42nd begins at 4:00 p.m.
