(KNOX) – An 800-person mission for the Grand Forks Air Force Base is in President Donald Trump’s 2027 budget.

Testimony was received last week regarding a $250 million Space Operation Center at GFAFB.  The base could welcome as many as 800 guardians.

Kathryn Kolbe, Space Force associate chief operating officer, said the GFAFB center would be one of four similar facilities across the country.
In a statement, U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, says he anticipates 800 guardians would be working around the clock supporting combatant commands.
If the project is ultimately funded, the facility would be 180,000 square feet. Missions would be related to satellite infrastructure and intelligence gathering. It would also include a 500-person auditorium and a dining area.
Hoeven is among the senators pushing for Congress to appropriate the funding.
