(KNOX) – A bridge on a township road in rural Grand Forks County has been lost to fire, a fire that responders struggled to extinguish.
The bridge is northeast of Larimore (Lare-ih-more), northwest of the air force base. The fire occurred Sunday night.
Grand Forks County engineer Nick West said the bridge was entirely consumed. Firefighters had limited access, and had to fight the fire with hand tools. They used over 3000 gallons of water to put the fire out.
Firefighters speculate the fire was difficult due to sealants used on the bridge.
West says part of the road will be closed for a couple of weeks , while the bridge will be out until replacement.
