(KNOX) – East Grand Forks is hoping a new feasibility study will help pave the way for improved roads throughout town.
The council this week reviewed plans calling for a comprehensive report involving all bituminous streets in the city. The analysis would examine needed repairs…costs…and calculate the amount to be assessed to benefited properties. A public hearing would be held prior to the actual work in 2027.
City Engineer Steve Emery says the last time the city conducted a feasibility study the projects were completed over a three year span from 2015 to 2017. He says street maintenance projects have a 7 to 10 year life cycle and timely maintenance is needed to preserve the integrity of the roads.
Emery says the actual work would likely involve seal coating and mill and overlay options. “Typically the streets that had a mill and overlay the last go around would receive a seal coat this time…and vice versa. All streets would be reviewed to make sure that strategy still holds true”
The cost of the feasibility study itself is still being compiled and should be ready for council review next week.
