(KNOX) – Early Sunday morning the Grand Forks Police Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of North Columbia Road and Gateway Drive.
Initial investigation determined that a 2001 Dodge Ram, driven by Orton Andrews, was eastbound on Gateway Drive when it left the roadway and struck the traffic signal pole on the southeast corner of the intersection. Subsequently, the pole fell onto Gateway Drive where it landed on a 2022 Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Toyota Camry was transported to Altru Hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries. Orton Andrews was arrested on multiple charges, including driving under the influence.
This collision rendered the eastbound traffic signals inoperable until the pole could be replaced. Therefore, temporary stop signs will be used to control eastbound traffic at this intersection. The other three traffic signal lights will be flashing red until repairs are completed.
The Grand Forks Police Department, along with partnering agencies, ask that the motoring public use caution while navigating this intersection.
