Grand Forks Man Arrested

(KNOX) – A Grand Forks man is facing an aggravated assault charge after police say he struck another man twice in the head with a wooden walking stick. Alfred Haywood, 42, was arrested following the incident on First Avenue South.

Grand Forks police were dispatched to the location for a report of an assault in progress. Officers found a man in a hallway with a bleeding laceration on the top of his head.

According to court documents, the victim told police he was seated in a chair putting on a medical boot when Gardner-Haywood struck him in the head twice with a large wooden walking stick. The victim said he was struck again as he tried to crawl out of the apartment. The victim told officers the attack was unprovoked.

Haywood was charged with aggravated assault, a Class C felony.
