(North Dakota Monitor) – North Dakota Department of Public Instruction Superintendent Kirsten Baesler officially resigned as the federal government reopened, paving the way for her to begin a new job with the U.S. Department of Education.
Baesler’s position leading the state’s public K-12 education system will end Nov. 24, according to a letter of resignation she submitted to Gov. Kelly Armstrong.
Baesler will become the assistant secretary of elementary and secondary education at the Department of Education after being confirmed by the Senate in October. Her first day was delayed by the federal government shutdown. She has served as the state superintendent since 2013.
“I’m deeply proud of the team we built and the culture we created,” Baesler said in a news release. “We shifted from being a regulatory agency to a customer-service organization that puts students and their families at the center.”
