(By Mike Moen. Minnesota News Connection) – A pair of companies with a presence in Minnesota are under orders to change protocols, reaching settlements with the state after accusations of workplace sex discrimination.
The Department of Human Rights said an investigation found that Lakes Concrete Plus in Bemidji fired a female truck driver, telling her such a job was not “women’s work.” Separately, investigators discovered that Key Lime Air, which operates flights through Thief River Falls, refused to hire a qualified applicant for a flight attendant job because he’s a man.
Human Rights Commissioner Rebecca Lucero said these actions undermine Minnesota’s efforts to create equitable spaces, including work settings.
“Our workplaces are stronger when we are working in places that are free from discrimination,” she said, “where we can all show up as our best selves.”
