(KNOX) – A state Senate candidate last year, Dustin McNally, has been chosen to a House seat in Grand Forks’ District 42 left vacant by former State Representative Emily O’Brien leaving the seat, she took a job with the state.
The appointment was made by a vote during a meeting at the Alerus Center Saturday. At which there were 37 members of the District 42 Republican Party. The members present were asked to choose from McNally, Veronica Hanson and Connie Osowski. Mary Ann Sens rescinded her candidacy during the meeting.
During the first round, Hanson received two votes, Osowski 17 and McNally 18. The candidate with the lowest number of votes was removed from the ballet and members voted again.
In the second vote Osowski got 17 votes again, McNally received 20.
McNally will serve the Grand Forks district in the North Dakota House on anĀ interim basis until next year’s election. The North Dakota Legislature meet every other year in odd numbered years and met this year. McNally won’t serve within the full Legislature in his interim position.
