(KNOX) – Grand Forks Central and Grand Forks Red River will meet in the first of two cross-town soccer matchups tonight.
Known as the Cushman Cup, the travelling trophy resides with the winner after the season series between the Knights and Roughriders. They face each other for the first time at Cushman Field this evening.
After success in the non-league season, both teams had a bit of struggle getting out of the gate in Eastern Dakota Conference play. Central had a late lead slip away against Fargo Shanley, settling for a 1-1 draw. They then fell on the road at Fargo North, a top four team based on the conference poll, 2-1.
Red River was held scoreless last week, dropping a 3-0 tilt with Fargo South, and a 2-0 decision to Fargo Davies, both at home. The Riders are looking for their first goal since their opening match of the year.
