(KNOX) – The Storm Prediction Center has taken the unusual step of forecasting a strengthened potential for severe weather in the region Friday.
In Wednesday’s discussion, the SPC has placed the area in an enhanced risk for severe weather, which is level three of five on the scale of predicting weather.
According to KNOX Staff Meterologist Mark Ewens, the SPC is expecting a scenario somewhat similar to what the area experienced in June when a devastating Derecho tracked across the area.
Ewens adds that all the parameters appear to be in place, including a very unstable air mass and a potent wave of energy moving along the international border.
At this point in time the only disagreement amongst the various forecast tools is whether it will be along the US2 corridor or similar to last night along the Interstate 94 corridor, according to Ewens.
