(KNOX) – The City of Grand Forks will talk with the Grand Forks County Commission, School Board and Northridge Construction over a planned tax incentive for an apartment complex planned in the city.

After a public hearing on the tax exemption, in which city council heard against the tax incentive for the development, council voted to enter into negations.

The proposed Payment in Lieu of Taxes, or PILOT tax incentive would grant Northridge a 100 percent tax exemption in the project’s first five years, an 80 percent reduction for the next five years and a 60 percent reduction for the last five years of the plan.

That part of the PILOT was rejected by the School Board and County Commission earlier this month, but both boards said that they are open to talk about a new agreement.
