(KNOX) – On Tuesday evening the Grand Forks Police Department responded to a disturbance call.
Officers met with the reporting party at University Avenue regarding what occurred.
During the initial phases of the investigation, officers established probable cause to arrest Edward Lassonde, 18 years old, of Grand Forks, for simple assault.
Officers attempted to contact Lassonde at a residence near the 1300 block of 8th Avenue North. Officers observed Lassonde outside the residence, but he fled on foot.
A perimeter was established, resulting in a significant police presence in the area. Eventually, contact was made with Lassonde via phone, and he surrendered to officers. He was hiding in a garage approximately one block from the location where he initially fled. Lassonde was taken into custody without incident and taken to the Grand Forks County Correctional Center.
He has been charged with simple assault, criminal trespass and refusal to halt. The investigation is ongoing; however, there is no known threat to the public. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact the Grand Forks Police Department.
