Grand Forks Man Waives His Right to a Preliminary Hearing

(KNOX) – A Grand Forks man waived his preliminary hearing this week and pleaded not guilty to three felony charges fromĀ an April incidentĀ in which he allegedly abducted a man from a grocery store.

Abdi Ali, 43, has been charged with Class B felony kidnapping, Class B felony robbery and Class C felony terrorizing.

Legal records said that a man called 911 on April 21 to report that Ali approached him in the parking lot of a South Washington Street grocery store and pointed a gun at him, demanding that he exit the vehicle.

The man said that he refused, Ali got inside the backseat of his vehicle, then forced him at gunpoint to take him to the Grand Forks Islamic Center on 17th Avenue South.

Grand Forks Police detained Ali when he left the building.
