Water on Spirit Lake Reservation is Now Safe to Drink

(KNOX)-The water on the Spirit Lake Reservation is now safe to drink. That’s according to Tribe Officials.

The water consumption ban that’s been in place since May 27 because the drinking water in the Spirit Lake Drinking Water System has returned to safe levels of manganese, has been lifted.

This comes after a July 1^st statement in which tribe officials extended the ban until August 22, it said that this was the estimated completion date of a permanent water filtration system.

Tribal leaders are still asking residents to conserve water as the system transitions to the new permanent filtration unit, which now has an expected installation date of August.

In the public notice of the ban’s lifting Spirit Lake said that the tribe will continue to monitor for manganese on a regular basis.
