(KNOX) – East Grand Forks City Council approved plans for the deer hunts that are scheduled for the fall.

This year the city will issue 16 permits for the two hunts. The first hunt is a disability and veteran hunt from Oct. 9 through Oct. 11.

There will be a total of four permits available in this hunt; the disabled group will have one anterless and one buck, or anterless, permit available, and the veteran group will have the same available to them.

The second hunt is Nov. 15 through Nov. 23. A total of 12 permits will be issued. For city resident preference permits, eight anterless permits and two buck, or anterless, permits are available.

For non-residents, one anterless permit and one buck, or anterless, permit will be issued. If city-resident preference permits do not fill up, those will become available for non-residents.

For both hunts residents of the City of East Grand Forks will get first pick and there most likely will be a lottery. All hunters will have to go through an orientation and demonstrate their abilities to the East Grand Forks Police Department.
