(KNOX) –  Denbury Onshore recently notified the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) of an environmental spill caused when strong winds damaged an injection well site 14 miles southwest of Marmarth.

Denbury estimates 228 barrels (9,576 gallons) of produced water and 13 gallons of crude oil released, the majority of which stayed on the well pad. Less than two barrels of produced water left the site. Produced water is a by-product of oil and gas production.

Personnel from the NDDEQ are working with the responsible party on cleanup and will continue to monitor the remediation.

Federal and state laws require operators report the spillage of any materials that may pollute water, air or soil. Visit spill.nd.gov for more information about North Dakota’s Unified Spill Reporting System notifications and the public access tool.
