(KNOX)- Grand Forks Fire Chief Gary Lorenz has been voted by the Fargo City Commission as the new Fargo Fire Chief.

All five Fargo city commissioners voted to appoint Lorenz after he was picked from among three final candidates in a national search.

Lorenz has been Grand Forks Fire Chief since 2018.

He previously worked for Fargo Fire Department for 28 years, leaving for Grand Forks with the rank of Assistant Chief.

He’ll replace Fire Chief Steve Dirksen who retired in May after 36 years in the fire service.

Lorenz is scheduled to be sworn into the position in Fargo in July.
