Grand Forks Fire Department Responds to Fire

(KNOX) – At approximately 1:43 AM on Saturday, June 7th, the Grand Forks Fire Department responded to 812 4th Avenue South for a report of smoke and fire alarms sounding in a multi-family residence.

Fire crews arrived on scene to find heavy smoke on the second and third floors with evacuation in progress. The fire was extinguished by the initial arriving crews.

There was significant fire damage to the unit of origin, with moderate smoke and heat damage contained to the second-floor hallway. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The occupant of the fire unit has been displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross and the Grand Forks Housing Authority.

The Grand Forks Fire Department responded with five engines, one truck, one command vehicle, and 18 personnel.

Three occupants of the building were evaluated by Altru, with one being treated and released on scene. There were no injuries to first responders.

The Fire Department was assisted by Altru Ambulance, Grand Forks Police Department, Grand Forks Housing Authority, and the
American Red Cross.

The Grand Forks Fire Department would like to remind residents to keep candles in a stable holder and at least 12 inches away from anything that burns.
