(KNOX) – The Grand Forks Police Department will undergo a site-based assessment conducted by assessors assigned by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®) will commence on Monday, June 9th.

The assessment team will verify the Grand Forks Police Department’s compliance with CALEA’s state-of-the-art standards for law enforcement agencies as part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence.

The Grand Forks Police Department voluntarily participates in this process by complying with the standards established by the commission in order to gain accredited status. The standards cover virtually all areas of the police department’s operations, including patrol, investigations, communications, finance, recruiting, personnel and training.

The assessment official, Sheriff (Ret.) Grayson Robinson, Arapahoe County, CO, is a public safety practitioner from outside of North Dakota, who is highly trained and certified in CALEA’s standards.

Should the Commission award accredited status to the Grand Forks Police Department it will be the department’s fourth award, having been initially accredited in 2014, re-accredited in 2017 and again in 2021.
