(KNOX) – Just after 5 o’clock Sunday morning the Grand Forks Fire Department responded to the Stay Inn at 1000 North 42nd Street for a general fire alarm.

When fire crews arrived on the scene smoke was encountered and the call was upgraded to a full alarm. Further investigation determined that a bathroom fan caused a fire. The fire was quickly extinguished, and damage was contained to the one unit.

There were no occupants in the unit at the time of the incident.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental due to a malfunctioning bathroom fan.

The Grand Forks Fire Department responded with five engines, one truck and a command vehicle with 17 personnel.

No responders or occupants were injured during the incident.

The fire department was assisted by Altru and the Grand Forks Police Department.
