(KNOX) – A project could be done on the Flood Protection/Greenway System in Grand Forks.
The area is located between 47th and 62nd Avenues South.
It is city property but it wasn’t initially developed as part of the Greenway System.
Grand Forks Water Works Director Melanie Parvey said that the location is right along the river.
“The trial system in the Greenway was developed along the river to about 47th Avenue South. At that point we really didn’t extend the trail,” Parvey said.
A portion of the project area was originally outside of the city limits when the flood protection system was built after the 1997 flood.
Over the years, there have been problems with vandalism and bullying of other users in the undeveloped area.
This project aims to improve public access to public land, enhance a fishing area for all users, and provide easier access for law enforcement and emergency responders.
