(KNOX) – A shredder could be coming to the City of Grand Forks landfill.
Grand Forks Public Works Director Sharon Lipsh said that they could shred a lot things.
“With the addition of this equipment we could also shred many other materials. Our plan to start would be to shred tires, palettes, the woody debris and mattresses,” said Lipsh.
Currently the City of Grand Forks contracts out for shredding for all woody debris that comes to the landfill.
It costs the city over $30.00 a ton for shredding. If the City of Grand Forks had its own shredder it could be more than $3.00 a ton to shred things.
The cost of the shredder is over $641,000.
