(KNOX) – Just before 3:30 Friday afternoon the Grand Forks Fire Department responded to 851 University Avenue for a general fire alarm.

When fire crews arrived on the scene, they found that the sprinkler system has activated.

Upon further investigation, a candle had ignited nearby clothing, which was completely extinguished. This could have been a much bigger fire if it was for the sprinkler system.

Damage to the apartment was minimal.

The Grand Forks Fire Department responded with two engines, and a command vehicle with seven personnel.

No responders or occupants were injured during the incident.

The fire department was assisted by Dakota Commercial, the
management company.

The Grand Fork Fire Department would like to remind all residents to never leave a candle unattended and to always clear any combustibles away from a lit candle.
