(KNOX) – Grand Forks Public Health (GFPH) encourages those who use smokeless tobacco or oral nicotine products, such as nicotine pouches, to take the first step toward quitting during Through With Chew Week, Feb. 16-22, and The Great American Spit Out, Feb. 20.
“It starts with day one and from there you can take small steps to quit for good,” said Sarah Odegard, GFPH nurse and tobacco treatment specialist. “Making the decision to be healthier can be easier when you pick a quit date like The Great American Spit Out. Let us help you with all the other details surrounding your quit journey.”
Quitting smokeless tobacco greatly improves your health by reducing the risk of oral cancer, gum disease, tooth loss, heart disease and high blood pressure. It also enhances oral health, including fresher breath, fewer mouth sores and healthier gums. Tobacco-free living boosts energy, improves taste and smell, and sets a positive example, helping you live a longer, healthier life.
Receiving counseling and using nicotine replacement medications more than doubles your rate of success and is available at no cost to those who qualify. For help with quitting smokeless tobacco, call Sarah at 701-787-8100 or visit NDQuits.org
