(KNOX) – Tribal Chairman of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa, Jamie Azure explained how law enforcement would work at a planned Grands Forks County casino resort.

“To begin with, a third party operator would handle basic security needs at the complex,” said Azure.

The tribe has proposed building a 200 room hotel, casino and resort in the Grand Forks area.

“Memorandum of understandings or agreements would be entered into the appropriate law enforcement agency that provides law enforcement services to the project,” Azure said.

The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa tribe owns a 146-acre parcel of land located within Grand Forks County, southwest of the current Grand Forks city limit.

The City of Grand Forks has said that they would annex the land if the casino resort would be built.
