(KNOX) – Minnesota Repubicans are seeking an opinion from the Minnesota Supreme Court over whether Governor Tim Walz didn’t wait long enough to call for a special election.
The reason, of course, is that the January 28 special election will go a long way toward determining if the GOP will have a one-vote majority in the Minnesota House. A spokesperson for Walz says state law requires the governor to call a special election as soon as possible.
Governor Walz is setting aside $1.27 million for the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine to study avian influenza… or bird flu.
The project leader calls bird flu a “ticking time bomb” for animal and human health.
Governor Walz says Minnesota may be getting the upper hand on bird flu, which devastated Minnesota’s turkey and egg production in nine million birds in 2015, costing the state $647 milllion.
Governor Walz credits Charlene Briner for getting the state’s emerging cannabis industry off the ground in a safe and responsible way.
Briner is stepping down and will be replaced by Eric Taubel, the general counsel of the Office of Cannabis Management.
Taubel has overseen drafting of the detailed regulations and legal strategies that will serve as the framework for Minnesota’s regulated cannabis market.
