(KNOX) – Naming rights for the proposed Altru Sports Complex is an issue that Grand Forks City Council is taking up.

Grand Forks City Attorney Dan Gaustad says he will present to the City Council what has transpired after his meetings with members of the Grand Forks Park District.

“We think that naming rights are going to be more at the forefront with respect to the city for the building construction, and once that building is up and running, those naming rights may become lesser verses a sponsorship. So we’re going to have a separate agreement on naming rights,” Gaustad told the council.

Gaustad says naming rights and sponsorships could be a way to offset the cost of building the facility.

“Those are naming rights that the city would obtain and would be implemented to cover part of this $110,000 million construction cost,” Gaustad says.

The City of Grand Forks has prioritized quality of life and workforce investments to improve competitiveness as compared to regional competitors of the Grand Forks community for retaining and attracting people and investment.

“Visit Greater Grand Forks” has briefed the City Council on the importance of the Altru Sports Complex in improving Grand Forks’ quality of life and event competitiveness as youth and adult sports are key drivers of economic growth and development nationally and in Grand Forks.
