(KNOX) – 2025 state legislative priorities for the City of Grand Forks were presented to the Committee of the Whole.
Grand Forks Public Information Officer John Bernstrom was before the committee this week.
“The session begins on January 7. Our first meeting legislative committee meeting with the North Dakota League of Cities will be January 10,” Bernstrom said.
Before each North Dakota Legislative session, the Grand Forks City Council approves the City legislative priorities. The legislative priorities give the framework for what bills the City will follow during the session and which bills the City will support or oppose.
“To give an idea of what we do based on these priorities, I go through all the bills. I see which bills have been presented and where they fall within our priorities. Whether we support them or just tracking them, or if we oppose them,” Bernstrom said.
The Grand Forks Legislative Committee is made up of Mayor Brandon Bochenski, City Council President Dana Sande, City Council Vice President Danny Weigel and city department heads.
During the session, the Grand Forks Legislative Committee will meet weekly with the North Dakota League of Cities to discuss bills being addressed in the Legislature and determine if bills should be supported, opposed, and if testimony needs to be provided on behalf of the City of Grand Forks in committee based on the approved legislative priorities.
The Grand Forks Committee of the Whole approved the list of legislative priorities. Grand Forks City Council will approve them or turn them down at their next meeting, Monday, December 2.
