(KNOX) – Blue Zones projects are being done in Grand Forks. They are designed to improve quality of life.

Nicole Benson is the director of the Blue Zones Project Grand Forks. She says that improvements have been done around an elementary school.

“They were able to identify and replace some of those street light fixtures near Wilder to make those students more visible in the mornings and after school. They installed a high visibility cross walk at Wilder Elementary,” Benson said.

Benson says that some of the projects that are being done are the timing of certain traffic singles.

“We have some things is progress. Listing some of those things that the city is looking at, and as a committee we are looking at, are signal retiming on North Fifth Street and Demers,” Benson said.

Some of the Blue Zones projects in the future include updates.

“In 2027, looking at the Gateway Drive pedestrian underpass and potential lighting updates and other maybe beatification things we can do around that,” Benson said.
